Why is Bitcoin often viewed as philosophical?

Bitcoin is not just a now-established store of value, medium of exchange, and base money. For millions of years, people have been searching for a fair medium of exchange. It was only with the invention of cryptographic methods and the Internet that a technology could be developed that is far superior even to precious metals in terms of preserving value.

But the history of money has also come a long way. The economy has essentially always existed, since people exchanged goods even in the past. These connections lead directly to philosophical reflections, because fairness was hardly a desired trait of those in power under any form of government. Yet fairness, above all, is the key to everything. Free development and opportunities for self-realization are hardly conceivable without fairness. Unfortunately, life in the modern world illustrates this problem more and more clearly.

This led to geopolitical conflicts. The vast majority of wars in our time are no longer about territorial disputes but about currency wars. Countries that share the same currency are almost never at war with one another. This is a positive outcome, but it comes at a high price: centralization and forms of government that restrict freedom. Wars are affordable in the long term only with fiat money, and it is always the citizens who bear the brunt of the cost. They are the ones sent to fight, and they are ultimately the ones who pay for it. It never affects members of the government or those who fund the wars.

These connections were already highlighted in the literature hundreds of years ago. Austrian economic theory, in particular, shows that only a free market can be fair, and that prosperity can develop only when people are free from coercion. Numerous historical periods clearly demonstrate these effects, as well as the effects of coercion and violence. However, a free market also requires a free and fair monetary system.

It is only through these constraints that it is even possible to justify Ponzi schemes such as fiat money and the socialism that goes hand in hand with it. Through voting, consent, or even indifference, free systems are already being prevented from emerging in society, because society defends its unfair system all on its own—often without even being aware of it.

It may sound unusual at first to associate spirituality with money. But when you consider the philosophical aspects, fairness, freedom, and—consequently—the opportunity for creativity seem almost absurd in today’s world.

However, if you look more closely, it becomes clear that spiritual awareness of money also includes saving money. After all, earning money usually requires investing some of your life’s time. Who would want to see the time they’ve invested in life devalued by central banks?

This insight reveals the connection. We create something with our thoughts. Through them, we find a purpose, a job, through which we produce something that meets a need in others. This could be a book, a program, consulting services, or even physical labor or a service. In a free market, it is a fair exchange. Under socialism, it is not quality that counts, but only time, which is supposed to be the same for everything.

But it is not only from a spiritual perspective that nothing in this world is the same. No two people are alike, and hardly anyone possesses the same abilities and talents. This makes money not only a universal store of value for our mental and physical labor. If money remains uncorrupted, it also becomes a fair medium of exchange.

Everything in our world operates in a cycle. Water rises and falls as rain. Positive energy flows only when there is also negative energy. Bitcoin was created as a tool to offset the global problems of fiat systems.

Accordingly, the philosophical aspect of Bitcoin adheres to all principles of fairness, resolves social conflicts and issues related to politics and forms of government, prevents abuse simply through its immutable protocol, lays the foundation for free markets, prevents the formation of coercive systems, and thus automatically and inevitably leads, sooner or later, to a fair world.
